Moloch (Aleksandr Sokurov, 1999)
Coinciding with the completion of his tetralogy of films exploring power - capped by Faust, winner of this year’s Golden Lion - Film Club presents Sokurov’s 1999 profile of Adolf Hitler, following the leader during his time at a German mountain retreat. Complex and confounding, the film interrogates the “banality of evil”, controversially attempting to understand Hitler as a human being first and foremost.
